Do most Blacks in USA prefer "African American"?

Or would many/most prefer a different distinction? I think most white are ok with caucasian, Asians I know are ok with asian, the more or less scientific name of the race; I think ***** still exists, but is never used in the USA. How do blacks feel, when a distinction is nessasary (say for a description or vital statistics) ?necessary

Well, I would prefer to be called an American. The only time I think that distinctions should be made in in the area of science since diseases affect all races differently. In that case, I prefer to be called a black American.
